Longleaf Studios Wins 5th Emmy

Jax State’s Longleaf Studios won their 5th Emmy at the Southeast Emmy Awards in the program promotion category for their documentary entitled “Defending Freedom, The Arthur D. Shores Story.”  As one of Alabama’s first African-American trial attorneys, Shores was instrumental in challenging discriminatory laws and practices. His legal expertise and dedication helped to dismantle systemic racism and promote equal rights for African Americans, despite facing significant threats and violence, including the bombing of his home. Shores’ dedication to justice, his legal insight, and his unwavering commitment to the civil rights movement have left an indelible mark on American history. His contributions helped to break down barriers and advance the cause of equality, making him a pivotal figure in the fight for civil rights.
