Student Spotlight: Dave Ritschard

Senior Music Education major Dave Ritschard, a student originally from Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea, was selected to perform on the Student Honor’s Recital for the Alabama Music Educator’s Conference in January 2023. 

Tell us about this conference and the performance. What were you most looking forward to?

This is the Alabama Music Educators Association conference. Each year there is a recital featuring various students from around Alabama. I was chosen to sing at this recital. 

What clubs/organizations are you involved in?

I am a member of the A Capella and Chamber choir at JSU where I serve as the librarian.

What is one way that you have grown during your time at JSU?

JSU has given me numerous opportunities to lead and perform. My professors have helped me greatly by giving me such opportunities.

What is your favorite course that you have taken?

My favorite course I have taken at JSU is Opera Workshop. I learned great acting and performing techniques. 

Any recent accomplishments?

Over the summer I had the opportunity to perform lead roles in two musicals and had my first paid acting gig.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I plan to pursue a doctorate degree in Vocal Pedagogy and eventually teach at the college level. 

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I enjoy metal forging as a hobby.

What advice do you have for first-year students?

Get involved! Make as many friends as possible. Education is important and often times the best education we can get is from people around us.
