New Drum Majors Selected

After applications and auditions, Drum Majors for the next season of the Marching Southerners were selected. The Southerners have four student leaders who serve as drum majors, as well as several section leaders.
The Sudler Award-winning Marching Southerners will be led by head drum major Jason Carpio, a music education major from Milledgeville, GA. Assisting Carpio are three assistant drum majors: Blake Durden, a music education major from Kennesaw, GA; Trenton Strickland, a music education major from Waycross, GA; and Jimaya Thornton, an exercise science major from McCalla, AL.
“All of the drum majors for next year are great conductors and outstanding musicians,” said Assistant Director of Bands Dr. Jeremy Stovall. “But just as important, they are all kind, helpful, and servant leaders. Their positive attitudes and leadership skills will make them all very effective drum majors for the Marching Southerners.”
Fall 2023, when these students will lead the band, will be Dr. Ken Bodiford’s 30th season as band director. To celebrate that milestone, the show’s music is being selected by fans. This is the last week of voting.
