Diversity & Inclusion: Latin Jazz Ensemble to Perform

JSU’s Latin Ensemble and Jazz Combos IV and V will perform a concert in the Mason Hall Recital Hall on Sunday, December 4, at 5:00pm. The Jazz Combos I, II, III, and VI will perform later that evening at 7:30pm. The concerts are free of charge.

The Jacksonville State University Jazz Ensembles strive to “offer an important and unique opportunity for all students to develop their creative process.” The upcoming jazz concerts will include a performance by the highly acclaimed Latin Ensemble, one of the variety of styles seen in JSU Jazz. This ensembe was founded by Dr. Andy Nevala when he began working at JSU.

“Latin music is an integral part of the global music industry, not only due to its virtuosic performance elements, but also due to its representations of rich and diverse cultures,” Nevala said. “Latin Jazz is the fastest growing and most popular style of jazz today, and it is constantly evolving. It has kept jazz alive for audiences!”

Jazz Combos I, II, and V are directed by Dr. Nevala, and include the new Contemporary Combo. Mr. Emrah Kotan and Dr. Nevala jointly direct the Latin Ensemble. Jazz Combos III and IV are directed by Mr. Chris Enghauser.
