Student Spotlight: Prospective Student Open House

CAH Student Ambassadors and faculty will welcome hundreds of prospective students to campus this weekend at the CAH Open Houses, which coincide with JSU Preview Day. On Saturday, November 12, the Film program and the departments of Art & Design, English, and Music will host prospective students and their families in the departments, where they will have the opportunity to tour facilities and speak one on one with our award-winning faculty to get a better understanding of career and educational opportunities in the arts and humanities. For example, in Art and Design, faculty members will demonstrate lighting techniques in their professional photography studio, graphic designers will showcase 3D printing and industry-leading design technology, Illustrators will showcase digital drawing tools, and painters and printmakers will demonstrate various art-making methods and technologies.

“The College of Arts and Humanities is the center for creative and performing arts at JSU, and the open house this upcoming weekend will give visitors a first-hand look at all that we offer,” said Assistant Dean Seth Johnson, who also directs Longleaf Studios. “Our Film major in the Theatre and Film Department will be opening the doors to the unique Longleaf film production studio, where visitors can step onto a film set and experience the innerworkings of movie-making magic.”

The Department of Music will host tours of Mason Hall, where visitors can see the new band room, choral room, classical piano lab, and digital recording studio. The English Department will showcase new concentrations in Creative Writing, Literature, and Professional Writing by hosting tours of the new Digital Writing Lab and Writing Center, where students have access to digital tools and gaming computers for writing, game creation, podcasts, and other multimodal projects.

CAH Student Ambassadors, majors, and faculty will engage with prospective students by answering questions, providing tours and directions, and more. CAH welcomes all high school students to attend the Open House; more information is available on our website.
