New Faces, New Spaces: Ms. Jean Ellison, New Encore! Show Choir Director

JSU alumna Jean Ellison has returned to take on the role of Director of the Encore! Show Choir with much excitement. “I jumped at the chance to fill my dream job as the new director of the Encore! Show Choir! I had an incredible experience [as an undergraduate and graduate student] and was always inspired by the Music Department.”

According to Ellison, Encore! Show Choir is “a high energy group, made of music and non-music majors, that dances and sings. We put on full, themed shows that dazzle our audiences. Encore! is all about teamwork and singing their hearts out!”

Ellison grew up in Blue Ridge, GA, before getting both her bachelor’s in Music Education and master’s in Music at Jacksonville State. As a student, Ellison was a cast member of JSU theatrical productions such as Hansel and Gretel. During her time at JSU, Ellison was also prominent in the singing scene on campus as a member of Chamber Singers, A Capella Choir, Civic Chorale, and Encore! Show Choir. Her involvement in Encore! Show Choir extended beyond her time as an undergraduate student, as she was the Graduate Assistant to the group before going on to be the choreographer for seven years afterwards.

Outside of JSU, Ellison performs with her jazz band Jean Ellison and the Treatment and runs her music school The Music Box, located in Anniston, AL.

Encore! Show Choir has three upcoming performances:

Inauguration of JSU President Don Killingsworth – Student BBQ – April 6, 6pm at President’s House

Encore! Spring Concert – April 9, 7:30 pm, Mason Hall Performance Center
